Sick of "gurus" selling you $20k dreams? Wake up. Real business isn't a secret; it's execution. Here is the brutal truth about business coaching scams in NZ and how to actually build a company.
You know the feeling.
You're a small business owner in New Zealand or Australia, and you're fucking grinding. You’re overwhelmed, you’re stressed, and you’re hungry for a breakthrough.
Then you see an ad. "free seminar" from a "world-class" guru who promises to show you the "secrets" to building a multi-million dollar company. They promise "easier sales" and "bigger profits," all while "working fewer hours."
So you go.
You sit through two hours of bullshit hype. You get a "very few nuggets of business gold", and then, you get a 90-minute hard-sell. You're ushered onto a "sketchy" call with an "advisor" who’s really just a closer.
And then they drop the fucking bomb: a "$14,000" or "$20,000" program that’s the real key. They tell you it’s a "special price," just for you, just for today.
If this shit sounds familiar, I want you to wake the hell up.
I’m Russell Oliver, founder of Creative Startup NZ, and I’m fucking sick of watching good, hardworking Kiwi entrepreneurs get fleeced by these "business coaching ripoff" schemes.
You’re not buying education. You’re being sold a fantasy, and it’s time you learned the goddamn truth about these small business scams.
This isn't just a sales pitch; it's a calculated psychological goddamn operation designed to exploit your ambition and your desperation. They use a standard, high-pressure playbook to get you to sign away a fucking fortune.
Here are their three main tactics, broken down using behavioral psychology (because unlike them, I actually read the books).
Have you ever seen their payment plans? They'll offer a "Platinum" package with a "Total Value" of $256,890.
This is a cognitive bias known as Anchoring. By throwing out an absurdly high number first, they warp your perception of value.
They justify this number by padding the "value." What a load of shit. They'll value "200+ One-Page Blueprints" at $75,000. They'll give you "access" to over "3,000+ videos".
Let’s be brutally honest: No one can watch 3,000 fucking videos. That isn't education; that is Cognitive Overload. You don't need 200 "blueprints." You need one coherent plan and the goddamn discipline to execute it.
When they offer you this $256,890 "value" for "only" $20,340 (paid monthly), your brain is tricked. It stops asking, "Is this worth $20,000?" and starts asking, "Can I afford to miss a $241,895 saving?" It’s a con, plain and fucking simple.
Next, they build a cult of personality.
Their bio will be a masterpiece of "authority" signals. They've "built three different million-dollar businesses," "written 16 best-selling books," and been "featured in over 100 newspapers." They might even throw in that they were a "National Aerobics Champion" 30 years ago.
What the actual hell does aerobics have to do with your business strategy?
Absolutely fucking nothing. But this is the Halo Effect. You're led to believe that because they were a "winner" in one area (fitness), their $20,000 program must be a winner, too. You stop questioning the product and start worshipping the personality.
The "free" seminar was just the bait. The "advisor" call is the trap.
This exploits the Sunk Cost Fallacy. You’ve already invested hours of your life. You’ve sat through the videos, you’ve taken the notes. The "advisor" uses this against you.
They create False Scarcity: "This $20,000 price is only for today." "There are only 3 spots left."
It’s a lie designed to short-circuit your prefrontal cortex and force an emotional, fear-based decision. The moment you say "no," that "advisor" who was your "new best friend" will ghost your ass. Because you were never a student to them. You were just a goddamn sale.
I built Creative Startup NZ for one reason: to be the violent disruptor to this bullshit industry.
We’re not going to sell you a "secret" that requires you to take out a second mortgage. We don't sell "quick fixes." We roll up our fucking sleeves and work with you.
We operate on low-cost, high-impact services. We charge $49.99 for audits, not $5,000. Why? Because we want you to have the budget left over to actually run your ads and buy your stock.
If you’re done with the bullshit hype and ready to do the real, sustainable work it takes to build a business in New Zealand...
Let's fucking talk.
Don't close this tab until you do these 5 things. Callous your mind and get to work.
Unsubscribe from every "guru" email list that promises you easy money. Delete that mental clutter.
Identify ONE bottleneck in your business today (e.g., "My website traffic sucks").
Take ONE low-cost action to fix it (e.g., Get a Social Media Audit for $39.99).
Write down your revenue goal for next month. Not a fantasy number—a number you will grind for.
Book a consult if you are truly stuck. But only if you are ready to work.
